Colorado's rich mining history of the late 1800s has given its Bed And Breakfast industry an extremely rich heritage. Telluride
Telluride, in southwest Colorado, is a small town surrounded by high mountains that resembles Alpine villages in Europe. Telluride's gold mining heritage is rich; in 1892, George Westinghouse and Nicoli Tesla built the very first alternating current power plant--Telluride became the first town in the world to be lit by electric street lamps.Hosting one of Colorado's best ski areas, the entire town of Telluride is a National Historic District, with many Victorian buildings from the gold-rush days still preserved. The mines shut down in the 1950's and Telluride was nearly deserted until the ski area opened in 1972. Today Telluride is one of Colorado's premier resort towns with world-famous skiing and music festivals.

Winter Park

Woodland Park - Pikes Peak Area
Woodland Park was originally called Manitou Park, and was a railroad stop along the Colorado Midland Railroad. The settlement was first established to provide housing for railroad workers, but was soon a popular destination for tuberculosis patients who needed the high-altitude, dry climate that Colorado's Rocky Mountains provided. Today Woodland Park is partly a bedroom community for the Colorado Springs area, but is also an independent mountain community in its own right.
