Telluride
| Telluride, in southwest Colorado, is a small town surrounded by high mountains that resembles Alpine villages in Europe. Telluride's gold mining heritage is rich; in 1892, George Westinghouse and Nicoli Tesla built the very first alternating current power plant--Telluride became the first town in the world to be lit by electric street lamps.Hosting one of Colorado's best ski areas, the entire town of Telluride is a National Historic District, with many Victorian buildings from the gold-rush days still preserved. Woodland Park - Pikes Peak Area
| Woodland Park was originally called Manitou Park, and was a railroad stop along the Colorado Midland Railroad. The settlement was first established to provide housing for railroad workers, but was soon a popular destination for tuberculosis patients who needed the high-altitude, dry climate that Colorado's Rocky Mountains provided. Today Woodland Park is partly a bedroom community for the Colorado Springs area, but is also an independent mountain community in its own right. |
