Paonia is another town dating from Colorado's gold rush but also is surrounded by orchards and other agriculture. In the North Fork Valley a ways north of Montrose on the North Fork of the Gunnison River, the area abounds with rafting, fishing, and hunting.

It was founded in 1860 as a stage-coach stop on the Butterfield line exactly 20 miles from what today is Colorado Boulevard and Colfax Avenue in Denver. Parker today is an affluent suburb of Denver with many horse properties and small farms.
