Silverton

Silverton, once the playground of Silver Barons and Railroad Kings, is in the incredibly rugged San Juan Mountains of southwestern Colorado. Its rich mining history, Victorian construction, and the Durango-Silverton railroad make it a richly rewarding destination for tourists in Colorado. This town saw mass amounts of gold and silver ore brought in from the surrounding mountains, for smelting and shipment to the outside world. Royalty and nobles from Europe made Silverton a major stop on the West's tourist scene a century ago. The entire town, the Silver Queen of Colorado, is an historic district.

Summit County - Frisco - Dillon - Breckenridge - Copper Mtn Driving Map

Dillon sits on the shore of Lake Dillon, a beautiful large reservoir in Colorado's Rocky Mountains. Dillon is surrounded by many of Colorado's premier ski areas--Keystone, Breckenridge, Arapaho Basin, Copper Mountain, Loveland, with Winter Park, Vail, and Beaver Creek being a bit further away. Trinidad

Trinidad was born as a lusty frontier town, a supply depot on the Santa Fe Trail at Raton Pass, New Mexico. Trinidad later served as a railhead for cattle drives, featuring cowboys driving the cattle through the center of town, whooping and firing six shooters overhead. Coal mining in the area was also an important economic factor, as the gold mining industry and the supporting railroads need high quality coal, and the Trinidad area supplied it.
