Estes Park - Fort Collins Driving Map

Estes Park, founded in early 1860's, named after the man who discovered the valley--Joel Estes. Became a boom town as mountain climbing increased in popularity in the area. Gateway to the Rocky Mountain National Park.

Salida, Spanish for gateway, was founded in 1880. Merchandise and buildings were moved to town from nearby Cleora, established earlier by speculators who anticipated the A, T & Santa Fe railroad would go there instead.
