Winter Park is in the central Colorado mountains 68 miles northwest of Denver
on Highway 40, with shuttle service from Denver International Airport. On weekends a ski train takes skiers from
Denver to Winter Park through spectacular mountain scenery on a historic railroad. It is an easy drive by car from
Denver.
Winter Park is a favorite with skiers in eastern Colorado. It is easily accessible
and offers some of Colorado's most reasonable rates for skiing, lodging and dining. It especially appeals to average-ability
skiers who like cross country and jumping. Winter Park's three connected mountains offer ideal Alpine skiing, especially
around Parsenn Bowl. The area's five-mile run is the longest in Colorado. Many people consider Winter Park's moguls
among the best in the United States.
It has 120 trails and over 1,400 skiable acres (43% advanced, 38% intermediate,
19% beginner). The highest lift goes to 12,060 feet and the longest run is five miles. Snowboarding and cross country
skiing are available, as are child-care and children's ski lessons.
Luxury lodging includes the C Lazy U Guest Ranch, a Mobil Five Star dude ranch
with one-to three-bedroom units, sauna, hot tub, racquetball, restaurant, lounge and ice skating. It is 25 miles
from the ski area but provides free shuttle service. Condominiums include the Beaver Village Condos, with kitchens
and fireplaces. Condo management companies include Destinations West, 970-726-8881.
Good restaurants include the Gasthaus Eichler, Ranch House at Devil's Thumb and
The Lodge at Sunspot. Night spots that usually have music or dancing include The Slope, West Portal Station, Club
Car, Old Town Cookhouse, the Last Waltz, Deno's, Adolph's, and Byer's Peak.
