Wolf Creek Ski Area

You are in for a treat at one of Colorado's oldest ski resorts...abundant, light powder snow.

Wolf Creek Ski Area is located in the Rio Grande National Forest at the southern end of the Rocky Mountains (The San Juan's), and is best known for its excellent powder snow conditions.

Avid powder-hounds come from all over in search of the powder stashes in the chutes of Knife Ridge and the Horseshoe Bowl. Many skiers enjoy maneuvering the Alberta Lift terrain, while others are happier in the traditional networks of trails that Wolf Creek offers. The variety of trails and superior snow conditions provide a tantalizing mix that skiers and boarders are in constant search for.

Wolf Creek is a high alpine ski resort, 10,300 feet at the base and 11,900 feet at the summit. Sunscreen and sunglasses are necessary in the high altitude sun. The weather conditions can change rapidly so be prepared with extra clothing and goggles. Clothing need not be elaborate, or even designed for skiing, but a wool hat, warm gloves or mittens, and underclothing are musts. Recognize your own limitations. If you get tired or cold, stop for a while.
