Highway of Legends Scenic Byway


This 82 mile drives you through areas rich in legends of the old west. Bring your camera and take your time, view the spectacular scenery of the Sangre de Christo Mountains and the Spanish Peaks. Hear stories like the one where George Simpson saved the town of Trinidad from maurauding Ute Indians by shouting taunts at them.

Then there is the famous story of the lost gold of the Conquistadores, Juan Humana and his band of Conquistadores vanished without a trace somewhere near the Puratoire River in 1594. Tails of the old west about Kit Carson and his brutal taming of the local native tribes, the legends abound.
