This 82 mile scenic byway takes the traveler through some of Colorado's most spectacular high country. You will travel a route that will take you across the continental devide twice. You will trace the Arkansas River nearly to it's source above Freemont Pass.

Linger awhile in Leadville, the highest incorporated city in the United States at 10,200' above sea level. Rest in the shadow of Colorados two highest peaks, Mount Elbert at 14,433', and Mount Massif at 14,421'.

Fabulous fortunes were made in gold and silver yielded by the areas mines spawning stories of the old west. The story of Baby Doe and the silver titan Horace Tabor is set in this historic area, (be sure to visit the Matchless Mine).

Travel over Tennessee and Freemont passes, visit the Arkansas Headwaters State Recreation Area. Don't leave out the Pike, Arapahoe, and White River National Forests.
